Return of Santa Rosa Mile

Michael Avila No. 33E leads Kenny Coolbeth Jr. in Turn 1 at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds last year. Sunday Sept. 29, the AMA Pro Flat Track series returns to the fairgrounds for the second running of the Santa Rosa Mile. Last year, after a 42-year absence from the Sonoma area, mile dirt track racing took place. A standing room only crowd filled the grandstand at the fairgrounds and saw an afternoon of high quality dirt track racing. Sammy Halbert won the Grand National twins class and Steven Vanderkuur won the Pro Singles class. There will also be short track racing for amateur riders tonight and Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Chris Beck Arena on the fairgrounds property and a motorcycle and art show and dinner on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m.
