A Santa Rosa man died from injuries suffered in a solo car accident Friday morning on Stony Point Road outside Cotati.

The victim, 37-year-old Tyshawn Wilbert, was heading southbound on Stony Point when he lost control of his Volkswagen Passat south of Gravenstein Highway. According to the California Highway Patrol, Wilbert had been passing southbound traffic on the shoulder when he veered up an embankment and overturned. His vehicle rolled several times until he was ejected and landed approximately 210 feet from the point at the top of the embankment where investigators believed he was first thrown from the vehicle.

Moments later, he was pronounced dead. The accident forced closure of Stony Point Road between Madrone Avenue and West Sierra, and the CHP diverted traffic onto Madrone and West Sierra as alternate routes.

I read the many negative comments regarding Tyshawn and though everyone is entitled to their opinion. My prayer is that due diligence will be done in this matter including full investigation of medical or mechanical. Tyshawn, was a loving husband and father and it behooves me to think he made a fatal mistake. I prefer to stand on the premise that either he suffered a physical aliment or the car incurred mechancial problems which leads me to believe that he was avoiding any other victims. This is a man who has served our country for over 17 years and I believe the parties involved in this investigation owe him that much in determining the cause of this fatal accident on Stony Point Road on September 13, 2013 at 7:27 am.
