The portion of Wilfred Avenue from Dowdell Avenue west to Rohnert Park’s Urban Growth Boundary and Sphere of Influence has been renamed Golf Course Drive West. The city council approved this Tuesday night in their regular meeting on a 5-0 vote.

But the rest of the road, located in Sonoma County, will still be Wilfred Avenue from Langner Avenue to Stony Point Road.

Rick Pedroncelli, RP’s senior engineering technician, presented the resolution officially naming the portion of the road from Dowdell to Langner avenues GCDW. He was asked by

Councilwoman Gina Belforte if the county would change the name, too.

“The county has indicated it’s not willing to change the name,” replied Pedroncelli. “It will remain the same.”

He also said his department has sent letters to all property owners between Dowdell and Langner about the name change and asked for comments. “To date, no one has responded.” No one spoke on the subject Tuesday night.

Apparently the city council assumed Cal Trans, which has a multiplicity of signs near the freeway, has no plans to change any of their signage indicating the combinations of Golf Course Drive and Wilfred Avenue exits and entrances at the intersections.

Adjacent lands are in the city’s Northwest Specific Plan and are slated for future annexation at a later date.
