|Santa Rosa Children’s Chorus to hold open auditions Aug. 24
The Santa Rosa Children’s Chorus, under the leadership of Artistic Director Carol Menke, will hold auditions for the 2013-14 Season beginning Saturday, Aug. 24.
No experience is necessary to join the entry level chorus. After auditions, the children are divided into beginning through advanced level groups: Training, Intermediate and Concert. Parents who are interested in further information about auditions or to make an audition appointment should call the Chorus office at (707) 527-8813.
All Chorus members receive a music education and choral training, including instruction in theory, sight-reading and proper vocal technique. The Chorus performs several public concerts each year. The Santa Rosa Children’s Chorus consists of about 50 boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14. They represent the surrounding cities of Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Rohnert Park Windsor, Sebastopol, Cotati and Sonoma.
The Santa Rosa Children’s Chorus was founded in 1984 by Juelle Hinman in order to create a professional level, nondenominational chorus for the children of Sonoma County. Menke has been on the staff of the Chorus almost since its inception and assumed the overall artistic leadership of the ensemble in 1992.
The Santa Rosa Children’s Chorus has grown over the years and now looks forward to its 30th anniversary season. They have performed with the Santa Rosa Symphony, the Sonoma County Bach Choir, Cantiamo, Ballet California's production of “The Nutcracker” and with the Santa Rosa Symphonic Chorus.
Annual tours have taken them to British Columbia, where they were one of only seven children’s choruses worldwide who were accepted to participate in the Kathaumixw International Choral Festival. International tours have taken them to Germany, Austria, and to Italy where they sang in a Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Local performances include public schools, retirement residences and many community events including participating in the opening ceremonies of Weill Hall at the Green Music Center on the campus of SSU.
