The three Rohnert Park City Council members present at the meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 13, voted in Daniel Blanquie as the city's newest planning commissioner.

Before voting Blanquie in after a short recess, Mayor Pam Stafford nominated him as her choice for the commission and Councilman Amy Ahanotu seconded her motion, but Councilwoman Gina Belforte abstained.

This made the two votes fall short of a majority, for council members Joe Callinan and Jake Mackenzie were both absent.

When asked why she abstained, Belforte said, “I’d rather wait and have the full council vote on this nomination.

“We have important planning questions coming up, especially the University District Specific Plan across from SSU’s Green Music Center across the RP Expressway. There are others waiting for hearings before the planners.”

After the break, however, Blanquie's name was placed in nomination and subsequently he was voted in as a planning commissioner.

The Community Voice originally had reported the city council's vote on Blanquie as being delayed.
