|RP man killed after being thrown from SUV
A dangerous ride on a stolen vehicle resulted in the death of a 27-year-old Rohnert Park man on Sunday night.
Edgar Sanchez-Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene after being thrown from an SUV he was hanging onto while it was traveling at a high rate of speed on one of Rohnert Park’s busiest roadways.
According to a Rohnert Park Dept. of Public Safety report, Emmanuel Sanchez-Martinez, 26, stole his brother’s Chevy Tahoe from outside his residence on Anson Avenue. As he was backing up, the owner of the vehicle, his brother Jose Sanchez, jumped onto the driver’s side of the vehicle, as it was moving down the road. Emmanuel Sanchez-Martinez’s other brother, Edgar Sanchez-Martinez, jumped onto the passenger side outside the vehicle.
Despite his brothers clinging to the exterior of the vehicle, Emmanuel continued his fast driving, according to the report.
Per statements garnered through the RPDPS investigation, the speeds were so fast the Jose and Edgar’s lives were in danger. Emmanuel continued west on Southwest Boulevard until he lost control of the vehicle.
He hit the curb and eventually a cement fire department connection enclosure. The impact threw Edgar from the vehicle, and he landed more than 50 feet away in a parking lot. As his brother lay dead, Emmanuel exited the vehicle and fled south on foot through the parking lot of 121 Southwest Blvd., according to witnesses.
Emmanuel remains at large and is wanted for questioning. Officers from Santa Rosa and Petaluma also processed the scene.
