RP's 9-unders pound Tracy, reach semifinals

Rohnert Park’s 9-under Cal Ripken All-Star baseball team continued its impressive run through the Pacific Southwest Regionals in Riverton, Utah with a 13-2 victory over Tracy Friday morning in the first round of single-elimination play.

Tracy, representing Central California, took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. When it was Rohnert Park’s turn at bat in the bottom of the first, the 9-under all-stars tallied all 13 of their runs.

Adam Hickman and Russell Freedheim were both 2 for 3. Hickman also scored twice and had an RBI. Freedheim scored once and drove in two runs. Brody Smith, Elijah Stevenson and Carson Crawford also scored twice. Scoring the remaining runs for Rohnert Park were Jack Bandy, Ryan Kane, Jake McCoy and Tanner Starrett. Stevenson, Crawford and Starrett each drove in a pair of runs, while Hickman, Bandy and Kane all had an RBI.

Stevenson was the winning pitcher. He gave up five hits in four innings. The game was called because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Rohnert Park will play in today's 2 p.m. semifinal against Arizona. Should Rohnert Park emerge victorious, it will play in the championship game at 5:30 p.m. today.
