Youth workers to explore their future

More than 240 young people will be exploring educational, employment and future career options at the 2013 Sonoma County Youth Ecology Corps (SCYEC) Opportunity Fair, being held Thursday, Aug. 1 from 8:30 a.m.-noon at the Finley Community Center in Santa Rosa.

The 14-to-24-year-olds are employed through this summer’s SCYEC program and will be participating in the Opportunity Fair as this year’s program nears completion.

This summer’s Youth Ecology Corps crews are working on projects throughout Sonoma County, including removing invasive species in creeks, building gardens, removing graffiti, and cleaning parks.

The Workforce Investment Board’s Youth Education and Employment Services Council is sponsoring the event, which will include local businesses, education and training organizations and social service providers.  Participating businesses include Sprouts Farmers Market, Redwood Credit Union, Office Depot, AT&T Mobility and Goodwill Industries. 

The Santa Rosa Junior College, Empire College, Job Link, the Sonoma County Office of Education and Santa Rosa City Schools are among the organizations that will provide information about educational and training options, while VOICES, Department of Rehabilitation, and the County of Sonoma will be on hand to help with referrals to social services.The Finley Center is located  at 2060 W. College Ave., in Santa Rosa.
