Rohnert Park’s California 9-under and 12-under Cal Ripken All-Stars have both advanced to regional tournaments.  The 9-under  team will be heading to Riverton, Utah, while the 12-under team will be going to Surprise, Ariz..

Both regional tournaments begin July 22.  This is the first time in eight years that a Rohnert Park Cal Ripken team has advanced to the regional tournament, let alone two teams.

The Rohnert Park 9-under and 12-under teams have already competed in several local tournaments.  The 9-under team had their state tournament in Windsor and qualified for regionals with a record of 8-2, while the 12-under team’s state tournament was in Central California, where they qualified for Regionals with a 5-2 record.

While the players, families and those involved are all excited about advancing, there is also the sudden reality of the cost of transporting the team to Arizona and back, lodging while there for approximately a week and feeding these athletes.

So Saturday, July 13, Rohnert Park Cal Ripken is hosting a movie night to help raise funds to allow the teams to travel.

There are only two weeks to raise funds. Movie night for the whole family will include a barbeque, bake sale, silent auction for sports memorabilia and a screening of the movie, “The Sandlot.”

This event will be held at B Park in Rohnert Park at 7:30 p.m. The movie will be shown at 9 p.m.

The cost is $5 for a hamburger, cheeseburger or hot dog with sodas, water and chips available.

The teams also are accepting donations. Make checks payable to Rohnert Park Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth Baseball (RPCRBRB), P.O. Box 2751, Rohnert Park, CA 94931.

Those who attend are encouraged to bring blankets and low-back chairs.
