Main Stage West to host Shakespeare Festival July 12-Aug. 25 in Sebastopol

Main Stage West in Sebastopol will present the annual Sebastopol Shakespeare Festival in Ives Park from July 12-Aug. 25.

This season, the company is offering two popular classics, Carlo Goldoni’s comedy, “The Servant of Two Masters and William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest.” Both shows run Thursday-Sunday at 7:00 p.m.  The productions feature all-star casts directed by Ashland’s Thomas Chapman and Sonoma County’s Sheri Lee Miller. 

Tickets range from $7-$20 and may be purchased in advance or on site beginning at 5:30 p.m.  Patrons are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and plenty of food and drink for picnics.  Shows are family friendly. Ives Park in Sebastopol is located at 154 Jewell Ave.

“The Servant of Two Masters” 

The play has been adapted and will be directed by Chapman. In this play, identities are mistaken, engagements are broken and lovers are reunited in commedia dell’arte masterpiece. Mayhem erupts when the crafty servant Truffaldino hatches a zany scheme to double his wages by serving two masters at once. The physical comedy of The Servant of Two Masters should be a delight for young and old alike.

The cast consists of David Yen, Gene Abravaya, Allison Rae Baker, Larry Williams, Denise Elia-Yen, Brandon WIlson, Peter Warden, Chris Sword Jessica Wysocky and extras.

Play dates are July 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20 21, 25, 26, 27 and 28.

“The Tempest”

Lee Miller is the director. Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place using illusion and skillful manipulation. 

He conjures up a mighty storm to lure his usurping brother Antonio and the complicit King Alonso of Naples to the island. There, his magic brings about the revelation of Antonio’s lowly nature, the redemption of the King, and the marriage of Miranda to Alonso’s son, Ferdinand.

The cast includes John Craven, Keith Baker, Danielle Cain, Rachel Quintana, James Gagarin, Eric Thompson, James Pelican, Peter Downey, Anthony Abate, Samson Hood, Tom Glynn and extras.

Play dates are Aug. 9, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 24 and 25.
