A man was booked into jail and remains in custody on suspicion of beating his wife with a bamboo cane Saturday evening in Rohnert Park.

Officers from the Rohnert Park Dept. of Public Safety responded to a call at approximately at 6:54 p.m. about an assault in progress at 7450 Cristobal Way in the Wine Country RV Park. Witnesses initially reported seeing a man beating a woman with a chain in the parking lot.

Because of the nature of the call, RPDPS Fire and AMR Sonoma Ambulance were called to the scene. Officers arrived less than 3 minutes and stated the female victim was unresponsive.

Witnesses said they saw the suspect, Edward Rosario, 52, run from the scene into the RV park. Officers then discovered Rosario allegedly was using a bamboo cane rather than a chain. The cane recovered and booked into evidence. The female was transported by ambulance to Sutter Medical Center in Santa Rosa for further evaluation.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol and Sonoma County Sheriff's Office assisted in the search for Rosario, who was found hiding behind a trailer inside the RV park approximately 11 minutes after the first officer arrived. He was taken into custody and booked into Sonoma County Jail for domestic violence with corporal injury, assault with a deadly weapon, threats to kill police officers and violation of probation.

His bail was set at $31,000, and he is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday, June 11.

This isn't the first time Rosario has been jailed on similar charges. He also was arrested on Sept. 25, 2012 by the Cotati Police Dept. for suspicion of assault, domestic violence with injury, public intoxication and a violation of probation.
