A Point Reyes Station man was struck and killed by a Ford Escape when trying to cross a major street in Rohnert Park on Friday, May 10.

Terry Gray, 54, was attempting to cross five lanes on Rohnert Park Expressway when he was struck at approximately 5:20 p.m.

According to a report by the Rohnert Park Dept. of Public Safety, Gray was nowhere near a crosswalk when he was struck. Gray, who was at a movie theater with this family, apparently was trying to cross the street so he could purchase a pack of cigarettes.

The name of the driver is not being released because the collision is still under investigation, according to RPDPS Sgt. Dale Utecht .

Rohnert Park Expressway near the collision was closed for more than four hours Friday night while police investigated.

Gray, a retired carpenter, was born in Costa Mesa and moved to Northern California when he was 2.

He attended Tomales High School.

He was well known in west Marin County, where he built many homes, and worked for several construction companies until the aches and pains of carpentry forced him to retire nearly five years ago.
