|Rancho boys second at NBL track finals
Rancho Cotate High's boys' track and field team had five individuals and one relay team finish in the top three places in their events in Friday's North Bay League Track and Field finals held at Cougar Stadium in Rohnert Park.
The Cougars, with 73 points, edged out Casa Grande (72) of Petaluma for second place in the team standings. Maria Carrillo of Santa Rosa won the boys title with 144 points.
Sprinter David Forman, a senior, was the only Cougar to claim a league title as he won the league title in the 100-meter dash in 11.08 seconds. Forman also placed third behind Maria Carrillo's Herbie Polk and Ukiah's Hugh Pegan in the 200 in 22.64 seconds.
Rancho Cotate sophomore Justin Zinnerman cleared 6 feet, four inches for second in the high jump, while Tariq Burton's leap of 21 feet, 5 ¼ inches was good for second in the long jump.
The Cougars' 400-meter relay team was second in 43.17 seconds.
Juwan Morales, a junior, and sophomore Carlos Franco gave the Cougars second- and third-place finishes in the long jump with leaps of 45-2 and 42-5, respectively.
Rancho Cotate's girls' team did not have a competitor finish in the top five, and the team scored five overall points.
