Kevin McGuiggan’s bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning delivered a key 3-2 victory for Rancho Cotate High’s baseball team over Montgomery on Friday, April 26.

The walk capped the Cougars’ comeback from the 2-0 deficit it faced after 5½ innings. Rancho Cotate improved to 6-4 in the North Bay League and 11-9 overall. Also, the win was a soothing tonic after the Cougars were shut out by Maria Carrillo, 7-0, on April 24.

Reliever Anthony Sosa picked up the win for Rancho Cotate. He pitched one inning. Will Felton got the start for the Cougars and allowed runs in the second and third innings. Felton gave up two hits, three walks and struck out one in four innings of work.

Rancho Cotate collected five hits, including two by Chris Delsanto. Adam Nelson, Noah Rogerson and Mike Jones had the other hits for the Cougars.

The Cougars are at home today, May 3, against NBL-leading Casa Grande of Petaluma at 4 p.m. The Gauchos, 10-0 in the NBL and 19-1 overall, edged Rancho Cotate 3-2 when the teams played April 10 in Petaluma.

Rancho Cotate squared off with Cardinal Newman on Wednesday, May 1. Details of the game were unavailable when The Community Voice went to print.
