Rancho Cotate High’s baseball team was unable to solve Ukiah pitcher Jeff Piver in a key North Bay League game on Friday, April 19, and the result was a 3-0 home loss.

Piver, a senior, was dominant in throwing a complete game as he  struck out 10, walked four and allowed four hits.

The Cougars’ Ryan Walsh had the best success against Piver, as he went 2 for 3. Chris Delsanto and Adam Nelson got the Cougars’ other two hits off Piver, who also did not allow a hit for extra bases.

Will Felton took the loss for the Cougars, who fell to 5-3 in the NBL and 10-8 overall. Felton allowed eight hits, including a two-run double to Russell Pinnegar in the decisive third inning. Brandon Acevedo also had a run-scoring hit in the third for Ukiah (2-6 in NBL and 9-9 overall).

The Cougars are locked in a three-way tie for second in the NBL with Cardinal Newman and Montgomery.

The Cougars are at home today, April 26, for a league game against Montgomery (5-3 NBL and 11-5-2 overall). The game begins at 4 p.m.

Rancho Cotate played a road game on Wednesday in Santa Rosa against Maria Carrillo. Details of the game were unavailable when The Community Voice went to print.
