There may be a use for the Gold Ridge School site in Rohnert Park.

The City of Rohnert Park and the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District have teamed to provide recreational opportunities at the Gold Ridge School site, located in the G Section of the city.

The Gold Ridge School, closed since 2008, sits on city-owned land, with buildings on the site in years past being utilized by the school district. In an era of shifting enrollments, the CRPUSD continues to reevaluate school locations and may at some point in the future wish to reopen the school.

Rohnert Park City Manager Gabe Gonzalez says, “The city, in partnership with the school district has decided to open the Gold Ridge School for a variety of recreational activities, thereby more fully utilizing the buildings for use by residents of the community. The goal is to have recreation programs that generate sufficient revenue to offset 100 percent of costs.”

Robert Haley, CRPUSD Superintendent said, “The school district is always planning for the future and therefore evaluating our facility needs. While we have a goal of increasing enrollment, we can meet our current needs with our existing facilities.  We are pleased that the facility will be put to good use by the city and serve to benefit the residents of the G section and the community as a whole.”

Over the next few weeks the city will be discussing the specific uses of the buildings on the  campus and letting the public know what recreational programs are being planned.
