As soon as March rolls around on the calendar pages you know it’s time for the annual “Sharing of the Green” fundraiser of the Cotati and Rohnert Park Education Foundation.

Like St. Patrick’s Day, this highlight of the RP social season takes place in the swank main ballroom of the DoubleTree Hotel.
This will be the 27th annual celebration scheduled for Saturday night, March 16. Every dime of the proceeds, as always, goes to elementary, middle and prep schools in the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District.

Entry fee for joining the celebrants is $70, and here’s a sample of what it’ll buy: Full course banquet dinner from the chefs at the DoubleTree, bottles of wine from Hook & Ladder Winery at the table, many tables of silent auction items from restaurants, wineries, travel agencies and businesses, a full-fledged live auction with emcee Michael Jurian, FM radio deejay, live dance music by famed Stax City Band, raffle tickets for wine cellar visits and trips to Arizona, with more being added, personal photographs by Fran Russell, and prizes for best costumes.

It all begins at 5 p.m. with mix and mingle wine and cocktails and a chance to make bids at the silent auction.

The theme for this year’s event is “Haunted Romance,” a unique twist on ordinary themes. Think “Jane Eyre,” Edgar Allen Poe’s “Annabel Lee” or even “The Bride of Frankenstein.” That opens wide the creativity channels for best costume award.

For this social highlight of the season, ties and jackets or tuxedos for men, evening dress for women are recommended. Early reservations will come in handy for DoubleTree hosts. Call 795-3648 or ask for Vera Blanquie at the RP Chamber of Commerce, 584-1415.
