Three Rancho Cotate High School wrestlers won individual titles at the North Bay League Wrestling Championships on Feb. 16, and four advanced to this weekend’s North Coast Section Tournament at Newark Memorial High in Newark.
The Cougars’ Brian Guerrero claimed the title at 113 pounds, while Joey Clay and Ty Brantley were champions at 152 and 160 pounds, respectively. Isaiah Barragan placed third at 170 pounds to seal a berth in the NCS tournament. The top three finishers in each division advanced to the NCS.
Guerrero and Clay also garnered No. 3 seeds for the NCS tournament. The top three placers in each division at the NCS will advance to the March 1-2 California Interscholastic Federation State Championships in Bakersfield.
The Cougars were unable to defend their team title as Windsor, which joined the NBL this school year, dominated the tournament. The Jaguars won the team title with 275.5 points, followed by Ukiah with 174 and Maria Carrillo with 125. The Cougars placed fourth with 118.5 points.
