A Rohnert Park man was arrested and jailed by Santa Rosa police on suspicion of vandalism and battery of an officer in a Starbucks coffee shop on Feb. 16.
Jesse Stevens, 29, according to shop employees, arrived at the store early and exhibited strange behavior. At around 7:45 a.m., he locked himself in the bathroom and began beating on the walls and door. He also, according to witnesses, tried to pull an employee into the bathroom with him.
Customers and employees evacuated the store and called the police. He then began throwing furniture at the front windows and emptied a cash register onto the floor. When a SRPD officer arrived, Stevens broke out the front door glass and charged at the officer.
An “electronic control device” had no effect on Stevens, who also swung a piece of patio furniture at the officer.
Stevens was treated for self-inflicted wounds to his head and arms by paramedics and then later at a local hospital. The officer, whose name has not been released, was treated for minor injuries.
