LJMS volleyball team falls in title game

Lawrence Jones Middle School's eighth-grade volleyball team fell one game short of winning the league title as they lost to Adele Harrison of Sonoma.

Despite the loss, it marked the first athletic trophy for the school since the inception of LJMS. The Lady Jaguars finished 6-5 in league and 7-6 overall.

"We did not beat ourselves, we got beat by the better team," coach Donna McKenna said. "Although we ended with a loss we ended playing our very best and playing our hearts out. We peaked at the end of the season, which made it so exciting."

Rei Rei Peleti and Marissa Hall both had near perfect serve-receive passing and the entire team did well passing the ball.

Collectively, the Lady Jaguars had 15 kills, with eight coming from Kaela Velles. Taylor Del Santo, Velles and Peleti collected 18 digs off some very hard hit balls, according to McKenna.

In the serving department, Peleti 16 for 17 (94 percent) with four aces. Velles was 10 for 10 with two aces. Del Santo was 8 for 10 with two aces, and Hall was three for three in serving.
