In mid-October, Adan Rodrigues-Chaves of Cotati passed away due to complications from an illness, leaving his four children in the care of Eliva, his wife.  Her sister, Maria Juana Flores, 36, of Santa Rosa was helping out and picking up her kindergartener from Thomas Page Elementary when she was killed in an automobile accident involving a big-rig truck on Gravenstein Highway in Cotati four days following the passing of Rodrigues-Chaves on Oct. 16. Flores had three children of her own.
Parents from Thomas Page Elementary School have set up a foundation to assist the Rodrigues-Chaves and Flores Families. On Nov. 29 a fund raising memorial dinner and silent auction will be held at the Cotati school.
Coordinator Debbie Delgado and parents from the ELAC (English Language Advisory Committee) decided they needed to help this family right after the accident. About 30 people, including school staff coordinated the event.
Over 100 tickets have already been sold, and there will be a silent auction with over 20 items donated from local businesses ranging from a television to baking items.
Attendees are asked to park at the park and ride in the Apple Valley Plaza where a shuttle will be picking up and dropping off every 15 minutes.
For more information or tickets in advance, please contact Debbie Delgado at 481-5632 or Silvia Montero at 292-2436.
If you are not able to attend the benefit dinner but would like to make a donation, memorial funds have been set up for the families at Exchange Bank.
Make tax-deductible donation checks payable to Thomas Page PTA. Exchange Bank account number for the Rodrigues-Chaves family is 019-50-14-808 and for the Flores family it’s 019-50-14-766.
