Three more candidates have received the paperwork to apply for the vacant seat on the Cotati City Council.

In addition to George Barich, who has already filed all the necessary papers, Ashley Veach, Alan Wintermeyer and Sky Matula have all been issued applications by Cotati Deputy City Clerk Tami Taylor. The latter three have yet to complete and return their application packets.

The seat became vacant on Jan. 25 when former councilwoman Pat Gilardi announced she was leaving the council to accept a job as district director for First District Sonoma County Supervisor Susan Gorin.

The Council announced at its Jan. 23 meeting it would appoint the new councilmember rather than hold a special election. The
person appointed to the seat will be up for election in November of 2014 and will serve until December 2014 when the results of the election are certified.

The City of Cotati officially put out a press release seeking applicants for the vacant council seat. Those interested in being considered for appointment are encouraged to submit an application packet, which can be obtained from Taylor by appointment only at Cotati City Hall, located at 201 W. Sierra Ave.

Applicants must be a resident and registered voter within the City of Cotati at the time the application is submitted to the Deputy City Clerk. Applicants will be required to complete and submit an application form and a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700). Completed application packets must be submitted in person to the city manager’s office (address noted above) no later than 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 28. For more information, contact the deputy city clerk at or  665-3622. Additional information is also available by contacting City Manager Dianne Thompson at
