Both Lawrence Jones Middle School volleyball teams prevailed in tough matches against the Healdsburg Grey Pups on Jan. 22.
The 8th-grade team – with four players fighting illness – looked as if it would not be competitive, as Healdsburg rolled to a lopsided 25-8 win in the first set.

The second set appeared to be more of the same when the Grey Pups bolted to an 18-10 lead. The Lady Jaguars, however, steeled themselves and rallied for a 26-24 win in the second. The final set saw Kaela Velles, Rei Rei Peleti, Malia Kuka and Taylor Del Santo play what head coach Donna McKenna deemed an outstanding third set to tilt the scales in the Lady Jaguars’ favor.
The eighth-graders evened their league record to 4-4.

7th-grade match
The 7th-graders, led by Camille Spackman, Lia Misi, Caitlin Cazares and Maggie Salinas won in two sets, 25-22 and 26-24.
Their league record is now 5-3.
