The Lawrence Jones volleyball teams squared off with perennially dominant R.L. Stevenson of St. Helena on Wednesday, Jan. 16, but proved to be stronger in both the seventh- and eighth-grade contests.

The seventh-grade contest went the way of the Lady Jaguars, 26-28, 25-22, and 15-12. Outstanding playing by Lia Misi and Caitlin Cazares led the way for the Jaguars, according to head coach Donna McKenna. "Mary Cabrera, Camille Spackman and Annie Jones added defensive strategies, which led to the victory," McKenna said

"Cabrera set the determined tone of the day for her fellow netters with her intense overall play."

In the eighth-grade match, the Lady Jaguars defeated R.L. Stevenson in two sets, 25-12 and 25-15. Three players dominated the net for the Lady Jaguars with a combined total of 13 kills - Kaela Velles, Rei Rei Peleti and Malia Kuka. Jaxen Brazell served 93 percent making 14 of 15 serves with four aces. Four other girls served 100 percent - Peleti was 9 for 9, Kuka was 8 for 8 including three aces, Marissa Hall went 5 for 5, and Janaea Mason went 1 for 1.

The 7th and 8th grade teams are both 3-3.
