|RC girls hoop squad drops two
Rancho Cotate High’s girls’ basketball team hung tough with Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa for the first half on Tuesday, Jan. 8, but the Cardinals managed to pull away in the second half for a 56-41 North Bay League victory in Rohnert Park.
The Cardinals held a one-point lead at halftime, 22-21. Cardinal Newman outscored the Cougars in the first quarter, 8-7. In the third quarter, however, the Cougars were unable to match the Cardinals, who held a 21-13 scoring advantage in the period. Nicole Guerrero was the point leader for the Cougars with 14. Kylie Kiech led Cardinal Newman with 15 points.

The Cougars were outscored 46-14 in the second and third quarters en route to a loss at Montgomery in Santa Rosa. Guerrero was the top scorer for Rancho Cotate with 14.
Rancho Cotate is now 3-6 overall and 0-3 in the NBL.
The Cougars travel to Petaluma for a game against Casa Grande on Monday, Jan. 14 and play their next home game on Jan. 16 against Ukiah.
