Rancho boys, girls fall to Montgomery

Rancho Cotate High School's boys' and girls' basketball teams were on the losing end of games against Montgomery of Santa Rosa.

The boys, after playing the Vikings tight in the first quarter, were overwhelmed in the final three stanzas in a 78-38 loss at home. Montgomery used a 22-9 advantage in the second quarter to pull away. Nick Reynolds was the leading scorer for the Cougars with 15 points. He also hauled in six rebounds and had four steals. Michael Courchaine added eight points to the Cougars' effort.

The Cougars fell to 1-12 overall and 0-2 in the North Bay League.

The girls' basketball team was outscored 46-14 in the second and third quarters en route to a 64-34 loss at Montgomery. Nicole Guerrero was the top scorer for Rancho Cotate with 14 points. The girls return to the court on Thursday when they travel to face Santa Rosa High.

The boys had a non-league game scheduled for tonight at 5 p.m. against Alameda. They return to North Bay League play on Wednesday when they face Cardinal Newman in Santa Rosa.
