|6th Street Playhouse to host ‘Smokey Joe’s Cafe’
The 6th Street Playhouse ushers in the New Year with the classic rock-and-roll revue, “Smokey Joe’s Café,” opening in the G.K. Hardt Theatre on Jan. 18. Featuring nearly 40 early rock-and-roll tunes from American songwriting team Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Smokey Joe’s Café provides entertainment for music lovers set against an idealized 1950’s background.
Audience members will be toe-tapping and shimmying in their seats to danceable 1950’s hits such as “Yakety Yak,” “Fools Fall in Love,” and “Hound Dog.” Thirty-nine timeless musical numbers, blended with set-pieces create a heart-warming retrospective of the roots of modern rock and classic musical theatre.
Smokey Joe’s Café runs Jan. 18 to Feb. 10 at 6th Street Playhouse in Railroad Square. Tickets are available online or through the box office at 523-4185. Tickets range from $15-$35, and it is reserved seating.
