|Fresh Choice restaurant in Rohnert Park closes
Parent company files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
It looks as if people looking to load up on veggies lost a major option with the closure of Fresh Choice restaurant in Rohnert Park.
Also closing was the Santa Rosa location. The sign at the Rohnert Park locale, 5080 Redwood Drive, says the closing is temporary, but it appears as if it will be a permanent situation as the parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Fresh Choice LLC, based in Emeryville, filed for bankruptcy in 2004 and emerged with a new owner in 2007. The Fresh Choice Web site is no longer up and running. Since early 2012, Fresh Choice restaurants throughout the Bay Area and Northern California have been closing, including such places as Novato, Concord and Corte Madera. The last Fresh Choice in Sacramento closed in November.
The restaurant chain’s success stemmed from how it served raw salad vegetables, some not loaded with salt and fatty dressings. With Fresh Choice, there was the choice of salad with a variety of dressings or the house dressing sometimes labeled with the ingredients.
Fresh Choice also was a popular stop for sports teams visiting either Sonoma State University or Rancho Cotate High School. It was affordable and it’s all-you-can eat format meant those who left the restaurant hungry are solely to blame.
Telephone calls to the Fresh Choice parent company were referred to the U.S. bankruptcy trustee. The fate of the vacated building remains unknown.
Where else could you go for "ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT" and come away UNsatisfied?
