Rotary toy drive under way

The Rotary Club of Rohnert Park-Cotati’s annual holiday gift and toy drive is gearing up to deliver another season of cheer.
Each year, hundreds of toys and gifts are collected and distributed to families in the Rohnert Park, Cotati and Penngrove areas. In addition, food donated by the local food bank, Neighbors Organized Against Hunger (NOAH), is also distributed to needy families.
Over the years, this holiday gift and toy drive has grown both in popularity and in partnership with others.

The Rotary Club of Rohnert Park-Cotati spearheads this effort, working together with the Rancho Cotati Rotary Club, Rotary Interact and Rotoract Members, the Rancho Adobe Fire District, the staff at the City of Cotati, the Rohnert Park Chapter of Realtors and the community at large.

Much to the delight of the children, Santa and his elves deliver the gifts to each family. Santa comes right to their homes riding in Rancho Adobe Fire District fire engines, a Cotati police vehicle and other helpers’ vehicles.

Last year, more than 400 children received gifts because of the generosity of so many individuals in our community.
This holiday gift and toy drive also touches families residing in transitional housing.

Along with   gifts for the children, these families also receive clothing and essential items for their homes, all donated by the membership of the Rotary Club of Rohnert Park-Cotati.

It is community support in the form of donated gifts and cash that enables this program to thrive and help families in need. Donations can be brought to the Cotati Police department or to any of the Rancho Adobe Fire departments until Dec. 25.   However, Santa’s elves will be wrapping gifts on Dec. 15, and Santa will be making his rounds on Saturday, Dec. 22.

For those wishing to donate, also consider gifts or gift cards for the ages of 9 to 16, as many times these young people are underserved.
