|RP to host road summit Nov. 14
SOSroads will host a “Road Summit on the Future of County Road Funding” on Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 5-7 p.m. in the Sally Tomatoes Event Center at Sonoma Mountain Village in Rohnert Park.
County Supervisors Shirlee Zane and David Rabbitt and Deputy Director of Public Works Susan Klassen will discuss the crisis in road maintenance in Sonoma County. The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions.
Zane and Rabbitt constitute the Ad Hoc Roads Committee and have been working on this issue throughout 2012. They will address the financial challenges in finding funds to repair 1,382 miles of county roads and road funding options the county is evaluating.
This year, the board of supervisors approved a one-time $8 million boost for the road budget to address the road crisis. With the addition of the $2.2 million franchise fee for trash haulers, this nearly tripled county general funds devoted for roads from $5.3 million to $15.3. The supervisors will explain how this one-time allocation of funds will be used and discuss options for future funding. SOSroads is a Sonoma County-wide citizens’ group formed to advocate for an improved allocation of public funds to roads.
Admission is free but a $10 donation is welcome. RSVP to email@example.com to ensure the summit can have sufficient space.
