Rancho Cotate High's football team got stellar performances on both sides of the ball Friday night in a 35-0 shellacking of Ukiah in a North Bay League contest.

Running back Jalon Luque turned in another outstanding rushing night with 205 yards and three touchdowns, while linebacker Fono Misi spearheaded a stubborn defense with 16 tackles. Ty Brantley and Tanoa Peleti contributed to the defensive effort with 11 and nine tackles, respectively. The defensive effort also was bolstered by interceptions by Carlos Soto, freshman Chris Taylor-Yamanoha and Misi.

The Cougars improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the NBL. Rancho Cotate finally gets another home game Friday night when it hosts Montgomery of Santa Rosa. The Vikings were on the wrong end of a 55-0 score in a Friday night loss to Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa.

Sloppy play ruled in the first half for the Cougars, who committed 11 penalties yet still led 21-0 at halftime.

Rancho Cotate's offensive line sprung Luque for a 65-yard scoring run in the first quarter. It turned out to be the only score the Cougars would need. The Cougars added two more scores on a 10-yard quarterback keeper by Michael Courchaine and a 15-yard score by Luque.

A 25-yard touchdown pass from Courchaine to Thomas Sory in the third quarter extended the lead to 28-0. Luque's 64-yard touchdown run in the third quarter finished the scoring.
