The Sonoma County Jail Industries Nursery will hold a fall plant sale on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 9 a.m.-noon at the North County Detention Facility.

The facility is located at 2254 Ordinance Road and Airport Boulevard in Santa Rosa.

Jail Industries will dedicate a greenhouse to selling the Master Gardeners’  “Sonoma Superstars,” deemed the best drought tolerant performers for Sonoma County. A second greenhouse will be dedicated to California natives and succulents.

Those who attend should bring your own wheelbarrows or wagons to transport plants. Shrubs, vines, perennials, trees, grasses and several other one-gallon plants ($2.50 apiece) will be available.

Freshly harvested Halloween pumpkins grown by inmates range from $2-3. All of the revenue from plant sales fund the nursery vocational education program operated by the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office in partnership with the Sonoma County Office of Education. All plants are grown and nurtured by inmates. No pesticides or fertilizers are used. A complete list of plants, vines, shrubs, perennials & trees may be found at Sonoma-county.org/jailindustries/plantsale.htm.

Anyone interested is encouraged to stop by the shop and stroll through the Master Gardeners' demo garden featuring native drought resistant plants. There also will be an area to drop off old plant containers for recycling. Also on display will be the adobe cob bench inmates created from sustainable resources, in partnership with Living Earth Structures. Donations of books and magazines also will be accepted.
