The Rohnert Park City Council on Aug. 28 honored the date as being exactly 50 years ago when the state recognized Rohnert Park's incorporation as a city on August 28, 1962. Pictured from left are current RP City Manager Gabe Gonzalez; Pete Callinan, Rohnert Park's first mayor in 1962 and then first city manager from 1963 until retiring in 1991; Vern Smith, also elected to the first city council and second mayor in 1963; Ron Rasmussen, who served on one of Rohnert Park's first commissions of parks and recreation; and Maurice Fredericks, who founded Rohnert Park with the late Paul Golis. Callinan, Smith and Fredericks all spoke at the meeting.
