Rancho Cotate High School’s soccer team has gotten its season off to a fine start by winning two of its first three games and tying the other.

After a season-opening 3-3 tie with Drake, Michael Tafolla and Juan Carreras powered the Cougars to wins of 4-1 over El Molino of Forestville on Aug. 23 and 2-0 over Petaluma on Aug. 28.

Tafolla put two balls into the back of the El Molino net, while Carreras and Alan Andrade each added a goal as the Cougars dominated.

A strong defensive effort and goals from Tafolla and Carreras were all the Cougars needed to get past Petaluma. Roy Boateng and Kevin Nguyen provided assists for Rancho Cotate.

Rancho Cotate plays a home game today, Aug. 31, against San Rafael in Cougar Stadium. The game kicks off at 6 p.m.

It will be the first of three consecutive home games for the Cougars, who will host Elsie Allen of Santa Rosa on Sept. 4 and Windsor in the North Bay League opener on Sept. 11.
