| Cotati actress takes lead role in play at Cinnabar |
Cotati actress Liz Jahren steps into another stage role this September in Cinnabar Theater's upcoming production of "We Won't Pay! We Won't Pay!"
Jahren plays the role of Antonia, one half of a comic duo who experiences escapades reminiscent of the Lucy and Ethel characters in the television series "I Love Lucy."
"We Won't Pay! We Won't Pay!" also features Cotati actor Gary Grossman in several roles, including a State trooper, police sergeant, gravedigger and grandfather. The social comedy, by Dario Fo and translated by Ron Jenkins, opens Sept. 21 and continues with performances through Oct. 7. Laura Jorgensen directs the play.
Desperate efforts "to make ends meet" become a comical tangle of escapades in "We Won't Pay! We Won't Pay!" After participating in a riot protesting the high prices at a local grocery store, two women find themselves tangled in a web of lies involving groceries and a fake pregnancy. Oh boy, these two will have some real explaining to do.
A period of struggle and tough economic times serves as the backdrop for this comedy of hunger, which examines how humor prevails over desperation. Various critics have also described Dario Fo’s play as "Karl Marx meeting Groucho Marx."
Show times are 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sept. 30 and Oct. 7. Tickets are $25 general admission, $22 for seniors 65 and older and $15 for those 22 and under.
Cinnabar is located at 3333 Petaluma Blvd. North in Petaluma. For more information or tickets, call 763-8920 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. or go to www.cinnabartheater.org
