Anyone hoping to find a lively music spot on a weekend night has a sanctuary in Cotati’s Redwood Café. Hosting performers regularly on Friday and Saturday nights, Redwood Café offers Cotati a musical mainstay.

On the fourth Friday of each month, the café holds a reggae night. On other Fridays, people can pay a small cover charge to catch a musical performance by Djinn, Hundred or Redwood Combo. Saturday’s fare, by contrast, is constantly revolving, with the café presenting everything from Americana to Gypsy swing and Argentinian tango. More details are available at www.redwoodcafe.com/music.

For vocal jazz group Redwood Combo’s August performance, employees cleared the front half of the café and arranged convenient audience seating by lining the walls with tables. The band members peppered their set with standards such as “Embraceable You” and “Almost Like Being in Love,” as well as throwing in some rhythm and blues classics like “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay.”

During the set, waiters placed candles on the front tables, and a disco ball lit up the floor. Audience members sang along to the music and shouted approval, and occasionally café staff could be seen dancing behind the bar.

The atmosphere was at once jovial and intimate, a welcoming place for music lovers looking for weekend entertainment.
