|Lottery winner remains a big local mystery
It’s been almost a week, and the person who purchased the winning Super Lotto lottery ticket at Kwik-Pik Market on Golf Course Drive, and the newest millionaire remains a mystery.
The winning ticket is worth $13 million, and the winner has the option of taking a lump sum, which will amount to less money (between 45 and 55 percent of the jackpot), or 26 annual payments. The market will get a $65,000 commission, which is one-half of 1 percent of the jackpot.
Since selling the winning ticket, Kwik-Pik has seen an increase in people purchasing lottery tickets from the store, hoping lightning can strike twice.
“I can’t really put a percentage on it, but we definitely have seen more people buying lottery tickets here,” said Danny Patel, a store clerk. “We’ve had a lot of people ask who had the winning ticket, but like everyone else, we don't know. Hopefully, the person will step forward because a lot of people would like to know.”
The word came from California Lottery officials at 8:30 p.m. a ticket was purchased at Kwik-Pik near Foxtail Golf Club. The winning numbers were 2, 3, 10, 22, 25, and the meganumber was 7. The winner has 180 days to claim the prize or else it is distributed to California public education. By Sunday, a large banner above the front door read, “Millionaire made here. Are you next?”
