Three people suspected of drunken driving were booked into Sonoma County Jail on May 25 during a DUI checkpoint conducted in Rohnert Park.

The checkpoint took place on Rohnert Park Expressway near State Farm Drive, and officers screened 2,238 drivers. An additional 27 people were arrested on lesser charges during the checkpoint, and officers tagged 16 people for driving with suspended licenses, and 11 caught driving despite not being licensed.

This was part of the countywide Avoid the 13 Sonoma County DUI Task. The heightened efforts by county law enforcement agencies over the Memorial Day weekend resulted in 53 DUI arrests from May 25-28. No fatal DUI crashes were reported over the weekend, but there were three injury DUI collisions. Officers towed 14 vehicles and impounded 11 of them for 30 days.

The California Highway Patrol Santa Rosa Area reported one DUI crash with one person injured on Saturday, May 26.

During the 2011 Memorial Day weekend campaign, 43 DUI drivers were arrested, and there was only one injury DUI collision with one person injured.  There were no fatal DUI crashes reported in 2011.

Funding for this program and the AVOID the 13 DUI Task Force has been provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
