If the planning commission approved it last night, Rohnert Park will have another Starbucks coffee shop with a drive-through window.

It will be built on the former site of Wendy’s fast-food restaurant at 6277 Commerce Blvd. between Jack in the Box and Black Bear restaurants. The commission discussed the proposal Thursday night, April 26.

Starbucks already has five outlets in Rohnert Park and one in Cotati. Three of them have drive-through windows: Mountain Shadows Plaza on Golf Course Drive, another in Wolf Den Plaza across from Sonoma State University, and the third in the shopping center on RPX near Labath Ave. The other three, one on East Cotati Ave. in Cotati, and two already on Commerce Boulevard in the Park Plaza shopping center – one inside the Safeway supermarket and the second a few doors to the south, do not have drive-through windows.

The staff report written by Marilyn Ponton, planning and building manager, recommended approval.

“This paved site in the Sonoma Gateway Center has been vacant for several years, and distracts visually from the shopping center from Commerce Boulevard. This proposal will be an attractive addition to the area,” she said.
