|SSU ensemble teams with Air Force for free concert
A free concert at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 18 brings together the Sonoma State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the United States Air Force Band of the Golden West for an inspirational program on the Santa Rosa High School auditorium stage.
SSU band director Andy Collinsworth has selected an American theme to showcase the 50-member collegiate ensemble. The centerpiece of the SSU portion of the concert will be Morton Gould's quintessential "American Salute" - a virtuosic styling of the folk tune "When Johnny Comes Marching Home."
Air Force Captain Haley Anderson will lead the Band of the Golden West in a program culminating in the joint performance of two Sousa marches, "The Thunderer" and "When the Boys Come Sailing Home."
Tickets are free of charge but required for admission. Those interested in attending can print their own free tickets from Brown Paper Tickets by visiting www.sonoma.edu/music and click on Get Tix. The SSU Box Office at (707) 664-2353 is also available for assistance. Remaining tickets will be available at the door.
The SSU band is a mix of music majors, students majoring in other fields, as well as members of the community. For more information, contact Ruth E. Wilson at (707) 664-3483.
