Mary Teresa Sandoval Arthur, a longtime resident of Cotati, passed away peacefully at home on June 30, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.During peacetime, her sister, Margaret Hon and her husband George, introduced her to George Arthur. The two Georges were best buddies aboard a Navy ship.
Teresa and George Arthur were married on Oct. 30, 1949. Over the years, the two couples took many trips together and traveled to all 50 states. They renewed their vows for their 40th wedding anniversary in Hawaii.
The Arthurs moved to Cotati in 1960. They were co-owners of the Ferrero’s Cotati Market, located in the hub of Cotati, and they were active in the Cotati Lionettes. In 1971, she entered the work force at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital in the billing department.
She met and maintained a strong relationship with “the girls from work” and retired in 1994 after 23 years of service. She was a current member of the Sonoma County Mustang Club.
Teresa is survived by her husband of 63 years, George G. Arthur and her children, Margie (Ron) Cassero, Susan Sullivan, Paul (Lorraine) Arthur, Lisa Arthur and Julie (Bill) Piazza. Sisters Margaret Hon and Mary Allison, both from Albuquerque, N.M., nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, also survive her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joaquin and Aurora, and siblings Encarnacion, Isidore, Maria, Antonio, Guadalupe, Arthur, Conrad, Louis, Roland and eldest daughter Kate (Ralph) Morton.
She was a woman who treasured her family and her faith. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother as well as a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church for the past 50 years. She was a true lady and will be greatly missed by all who knew here.
A memorial service was held for Teresa on July 6, 2012, at the St. Joseph’s Church in Cotati. Donations in her honor can be made to: St. Joseph’s Church Memorial Fund, 150 St. Joseph Way, Cotati, CA 94931 or to Heartland Hospice Services.
